Original weight from the start: 286

Current weight: 258

What up everyone and welcome to another edition of Fatboy’s Log. I am your favorite fatboy, RJ and as always, I’ll be talking about some ways to keep you active, inspired, and make you feel better when you have a bad day so let’s get right down to it.

Now I have to stress on this because some people over work themselves to shed the pounds very quickly. Yes, it’s good to be losing weight but at a healthy rate. There was a time when I was at my fittest and the pounds I lost shed super quickly. It ended up with me relapsing and gaining more weight than I ever had. Now, I go about my goals one little step at a time. Progressively eating a little more without dieting dramatically and not gorging, drinking a fuck ton of water and staying away from juices and soda as much as possible and medium intense workouts. I feel like for my body type this is the best for me.

Since this is somewhat of a JLB edition, why not bring up some things about my band. As some of you know, I am a vocalist for the band called Jack’s Last Bullet. These guys are near and dear to my heart and will always be a part of my life. Now I wont get into the music aspect but some of the things I do on stage that make me burn off these calories.

1. Jumping up and down

Doing this, your heart rate goes up and works up a sweat. You can burn so many calories just by jumping up and down!

2. DANCE DANCE DANCE DANCE stop!

Dance your ass off! Dancing is one of the best ways to lose weight. You burn lots of calories and you have a good time doing it. Even if you’re at work, why not? Show your energy! lol

3. Moshing

ehhh…same thing as dancing haha

I love all the sweat I get after shows cause I feel like every show is like a high intense workout. Like running as fast as I can but doesn’t faze me because of the adrenaline rush that feed off from the crowd. It’s pretty amazing and I love being with this band. Special thanks to everyone that came out! I love you guys.

And now it’s time for the …of the week awards!

Song of the Week

Niggas in Paris by Jay-Z and Kanye West

One of the hypest songs to listen to when I work out. Makes me feel invincible and untouchable when have this song playing. The beat and reoccurring rhythmic pattern with their flows make this track super hard. Check out the album off ITunes or Amazon. You will not be disappointed.

Workout of the week

Shake weight?

Yeah, I said it. Shake weight surprisingly does wonders for your arms and upper chest. I shake each arm and both arms from the front and back for about as long as I could do it for. It looks hilarious cause your forced to look like you are doing the do but shake weight is legit!

Food of the Week

Hummus Dip w/ baby Carrots

One of the great things to have when I have the munchies is Hummus Dip and raw baby carrots. Hummus is a very healthy snack that’ll definitely fill you up without the guilty feeling! Since I’ve been eating hummus, me and carrots have been the best of friends. It’s a guilty free snack. don’t believe me? Check this video out!

Words of Encouragement!

This might sound cliche as fuck but seriously, FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS! Do what you love and stick to it. You don’t want to live with any regrets saying to yourself, what if? It’s never too late to do the things you wanted to do or pursue in, whether you want to be a graphic designer or play in a jazz band. Draw and/or play your heart out and pour your soul into everything you do. Much like exercise and staying healthy, you want to give it your absolute best to achieve your personal goal. So if there is something I want you to get out of this, never give up on the things you love doing. Keep on keepin on like Joe Dirt says haha

Before I go, be sure to check out Mira Mesa and SD’s own Misa and Maiya Tanaka whoop some ass on The Amazing Race 20 premiering tomorrow night on CBS! They also have a fundraiser supporting the fight against breast cancer called Michelle’s Place. Any amount you could donate could make the difference in someone’s life. Safe to say, they love boobies and I do too!

Hello Wonderful World of Tumblr! And welcome to another edition of Fatboy’s Log! I am RJ Fernando, for those who don’t know me. Sorry about the lag everyone! The first week of school has made my schedule super busy. =/ Anywho, this mission has so far been one heck of a kick start and within three weeks, I’ve nearly 20 pounds! How did I do it? Let’s get right down to it!

The two important things I’ve been doing to shed the pounds is drinking my 8 or more glasses of water and light to mid intense cardio. I’ve been jogging more than usual, and it has really done wonders for me. The route is about 2.5 miles and I do that almost everyday with 3lb weights. My stamina is increasing day after day and I love not lose my breath as much as I use to.

Another thing that helps is looking at the labels of your nutrition facts. The key things to look at are saturated fats and sugar (doctors and/or nutrition majors, if there is more you would like to add, please do!) Stay away from saturated fats and refined sugars as possible. Cheat days are okay especially in the summer, for all you fair eaters lol As long as you can work it out, you should be in the clear.

Now I know what a lot of people say about working out: “It’s time consuming and I don’t have the time to workout cause or my hectic work/school or whatever schedule. When I go home I get tired.” I understand completely! If you have 10-60 minutes free in your time slot, capitalize on that time to do some form of exercise. There are plenty of fitness videos on youtube that you could look at that require very little time but still deliver a high intensity workout. One of these example being the world’s fastest workout presented by diet.com and trainer Stephen Cabral ! It’s 4 minute exercises that includes the following:

Squat Thrusts x20sec

10 sec rest

Mountain Climbers x20sec

10 sec rest

high knees x20secs

10 sec rest

Jumping jacks x20 secs

10 sec rest then repeat the whole thing one more time.

Thanks to my bro, Neil Denny for showing me this exercise and diet.com for posting this on youtube! This is a workout I’m definitely going back to! If you want to check out the video and workout to the video here is the link!  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AimPOSXe7n4

And now Ladies and Gentlemen, this week’s “…..of the week” awards

Health Site of the Week

http://www.mangosteen-natural-remedies.com/benefits-of-drinking-water.html

This is a really informative article on the importance of water. If you feel like you aren’t drinking enough H2O, you might find this site beneficial.

Song of the Week

All I Ask of You by Skrillex ft. Penny

Skrillex always brings the energy into his music and made me look at dubstep in a different light. Penny’s sweet sounding vocals, the light hearted synthesized sounds, and chest pumping bass kicks makes this track an amazing workout song. Check out Skrillex’s Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites on iTunes, Amazon, Beatport.com or anywhere you could get your hands on this and many other Skrillex albums. Also check out the homegirl, Penny on facebook http://www.facebook.com/pennybirdrabbit?ref=ts

Healthy Tip of the week

Planning on eating Panda Express? Here’s a good meal to eat without the super full feeling and guilt trip. Order a two entree meal with Steamed rice (380cal). The entree would be Mixed Veggies (70cals) and Mushroom Chicken (180 cals) with a total calorie count of 630 cals! It’s healthy and still super bomb! For the nutrition facts of panda express, go to http://www.pandaexpress.com/menu/nutrition.aspx

And now for some…Words of Encouragement

Optimism is hard to possess, especially through the hardest times in your life. But I could tell you, it’s never a bad idea to have optimism. My psychology teacher, Dr. Jessica Menou mentioned in a chapter that those who are optimistic are likely to live longer and reduce a good amount of stress.  I find this to be very effective because, one way or the other, we are dealt with negativity and bullshit that we have to face. So why not look at the other side of the spectrum and see the good things in life. The opportunities that we are given and means we have. Have a bit to a lot of optimism and you will definitely see a happier side. You will make yourself and others around you very happy.

So this marks the end of my fatboy log! If you have suggestions on food, exercise, music, health sites or other advice you email me on rckyfernando@gmail.com or check me out on www.facebook.com/rjitsubrah. Next week’s blog will be a VBlog on my new youtube account. More details on the way! Till next time everyone =)

Tip Pic of the Night
If you want to indulge for a late night snack, indulge light. Better than grubbing massively. Save the Carne Asada fries for the weekend! =D

Happy Martin Luther King Day everyone! Another week over and 2 more pounds knocked out! Very stoked that I am making progress and I hope that you are all making an effort to put fitness in your daily schedule. It’s really important to set aside some time to do any kind of physical activity to keep your health in good condition. Whatever you’re doing, keep it up!

So this week I lost, you guessed it, 2 more pounds for a total of 4 lbs lost in the past couple of weeks! Although, I didn’t push myself as much as I’d like to, I still managed to lose weight. I limited my cardio due to the bum ankle I had on Tuesday. I saw The Cab and The Summer Set at House of Blues with my good friend, Kevin Dawes and managed to sprain my ankle in the process(totally worth it). Throughout the week, I did many strength training exercises including, commercial push ups and sit ups, weight lifting emphases on triceps, biceps and backs (exercises Harina showed me) and Squats.

What are commercial push ups and sit ups you ask? They’re push ups and crunches you do in between commercials. There are a couple of ways of doing this:

1) For every other commercial on, do ten push ups. When your show cuts commercial again, for every other commercial, do 20 sit ups/crunches(simple).

2) For every commercial do ten push up, when the next commercial comes on do 20 crunches and so on, and so on, and so on….(repeat the process till your show comes on).

Whatever floats your boat, is on you. Same can apply to many other exercises you can think of doing in between commercials.

And now for the first time ever, as many things in this blog, …of the day/week awards, tips, etc.

Workout Music of the Day

The Revolution by Attack Attack! off of their new release, This Means War. Which hit stores tomorrow and now available on iTunes!  This hard hitting post hardcore tune keeps the heart rate racing, perfect Cardio music! START A REVOLUTION!!

Food of the week

Egg whites and Turkey breast on wheat bun (Did you know?: four egg whites are 67 calories)

Tip of the Week

Thanks to a tip from my brother, Michael Ravarra, something that has been working for me is drinking water after every bite of food. The average person chews their food for about 15-30 seconds before swallowing. Drink some water after every bite and you’ll be full faster!

Words of Encouragement

Before I end this blog, I want to give encouragement to those who go to the gym or workout for a couple of weeks then give up on their resolutions. Even if you don’t see immediate results, being active is the first step to weight loss or whatever your fitness goal may be. You can hear that from beefcakes, skinnies, athletes and health nuts but now hear it from a fat guy. Keep doing what your doing, watch what you eat and drink plenty of water. You can do it, you just gotta have the will and the motivation. Don’t do it only to look sexy but do it for yourself and health!

Thanks to everyone that has read this blog! I will be having things up on this from time to time such as tips/vblogs/encouragements and plenty of ….of the days, etc. Stay as positive as you can and have yourself a good night!

If you have any suggestions on recipes, workouts, tips or whatever could be helpful (like comments of encouragement or discouragement lol) Please send them to rckyfernando@gmail.com or message me on my personal facebook, www.facebook.com/rjitsubrah Thank you all so much! See you soon!
